JOB SUMMARY

Perform routine to moderately complex financial transaction analysis to identify unusual activity that prevent the bank from becoming unwitting facilitators of money laundering and terrorist financing activity. Will be responsible for the review and quality of onboarding documentation prepared by the Personal Banking Representative and Lenders prior or subsequent to establishing to the new relationship.

The BSA Analyst I will perform research, tracking and reporting as necessary to comply with the ever-changing regulatory environment. This includes conducting routine to moderately comprehensive BSA transaction analysis utilizing a combination of reports and applications to determine suspicious activity and files Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) with FinCEN as needed. Assists with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) related duties, projects and initiatives. This includes BSA (Bank Secrecy Act), OFAC (Office of Foreign Assets Control), and CIP (Customer Identification Program).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

The duties listed below may not include all responsibilities that the person in this role may be asked to perform. Incumbent may be required to perform other related duties as assigned.

1. Review potential new account/loan opening applications to ensure that account opening documentation is in order and meets all applicable legal and regulatory requirements (i.e. verification of client identity, CDD, EDD, sanctions screening, etc.)
2. Analyze challenging or high-risk account opening situations and to make appropriate recommendations to managers whether to onboard a client and other suitable recommendations as to appropriate controls to-be put in place.
3. Work closely with business units to continually improve account opening processes to ensure a seamless client onboarding process.
4. Perform timely investigations with well-reasoned and supported decision making of suspicious activity reports.
5. Utilize a variety of internal bank systems and external research tools to investigate, research, and prepare documentation related to anti-money laundering investigations consistent with resolution of investigation
6. Prepare and documents research, analysis and investigation finding in case management system in a concise and through manner.
7. Drafts Suspicious Activity Reports as needed; submit Suspicious Activity Reports to BSA Case Team Lead allowing enough time for approval and submission.
8. Summarize and conclude accurate SAR filing decisions with minimum support.
9. Independently investigates alerts generated by the bank’s automated software of potential suspicious activity involving money laundering, terrorist financing and fraudulent activity across all business lines to determine and recommend appropriate resolution (e.g., completion of a SAR, exit relationship, continued monitoring).
10. Responsible for ensuring all monthly cases assigned are investigated thoroughly and that all results of analysis are documented properly. This includes cases generated through the bank’s automated software or referrals submitted through the various business lines.
11. As assigned, conduct extensive reviews on customers classified in the bank’s high-risk list. This includes, but is not limited to, Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs), Cash-intensive clients (e.g. convenience stores, restaurants, retail stores, privately owned ATM customers), Professional Service Providers such as accountants, lawyers or other third parties that act as a financial liaison for the client, Non-governmental organization and Money Service Businesses. Responsible to accurately documenting results of full analysis and review.
12. Involves contact with account officers to obtain documentation and/or information necessary to complete the account analysis.
13. Ensures that decisions not to file Suspicious Activity Reports are well supported and documented.
14. Monthly reviews of SARs needing a 90-day follow and ensure a supplemental SAR if filed within the required timeframe.
15. Assists business lines with BSA-related issues.
16. Assures compliance with all Bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations, which include BSA, CIP, and OFAC requirements as they apply to this job title/position.

• 2-3 years’ experience in banking industry
• Ability to work independently
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
